On January 23rd, over 35,000 people turned out to walk along San Francisco’s Embarcadero and take a stand for life. The 6th Annual Walk for Life West Coast saw it’s greatest gathering ever, despite poor weather conditions. It just proved the commitment the pro-life movement has for its cause.

Co-founders Eva Muntean and Dolores Meehan founded the Walk in 2005. They had attended the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. and were inspired to start their own. Their decision to hold the walk in San Francisco, one of the most pro-abortion and liberal cities in the country, was a bold move. They were met by fierce adversity during that first year. But Eva and Dolores never let that stop their mission of establishing a new West Coast tradition of celebrating life.

The Walk’s speakers this year included Lila Rose, the president of Live Action. She encouraged young people to take a stand and become actively involved in the movement. After all, the youth are the future of America and the pro-life movement. Jim Garlow, a well-known author and pastor, spoke of his hope for a great awakening within the country regarding abortion. He urged participants to choose a side in the great debate and to be active in their pro-life fight.

The backdrop of San Francisco provided for some colorful protestors. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence came out to protest the Walk. They shared their pro-abortion opinions about the Walk for Life and it’s cause.

The Walk for Life West Coast, with its 35,000 participants peacefully walking, singing and praying, was a sight-to behold. Events like the Walk for Life are instrumental in shedding awareness about abortion and changing the hearts and minds of people across the world.
